Evolution is a series of changes, some gradual and some sporadic, that accounts for the present form and function of objects, organisms, and systems. The general idea of evolution is that the present arises from materials and forms of the past. In this unit, students will learn how evolution is most commonly associated with the biological theory explaining the process of descent with modification of organisms from common ancestors. They will be able to answer questions such as: How did Darwin's theory challenge scientific thinking? What is the evidence for evolution? How does evolution explain the variety of life forms on Earth? & Why have some creatures evolved flashy coloration? The 12 day unit will progress in this oder: Intro to Evolution, Evidence for Evolution, Natural Selection, Mechanisms for evolution, Review, then finally a Unit Test.
